A choker is a close-fitting necklace worn around the neck also called colliers de chien. Considered as object of the elite because it was custom-made to fit one’s neck perfectly.
The choker necklace has a long history and was mainly associated with high fashion. Chokers were popular in the late 19th century, in the 70-s, late 90s and nowadays. But it wasn’t only a fashion statement during the French Revolution. Women wore red ribbons around their necks to pay homage to those who met their death at the guillotine.
In 1860 a black ribbon around the neck could mean a woman was a prostitute.
Instead later in 1874 ballerinas and fashionable ladies wore them. Late 1800s it was a huge royal trend. In 40s dog collars are in fashion again both on actual dogs and women. Nowadays choker is an important fashion statement seen on celebrities, models, bloggers, proposed in different ways by fashion houses.
Chokers can be made from different materials such as velvet, leather, metal, can have pendants and studs.
Here are the chokers we love the most:
Velvet chokers – wide velvet choker is so stylish, instead just a velvet wrap choker in nude color around the neck is so damn femminine
Lace Choker – can be elegant and feminine in summer season and have a trendy and rock attitude together with your biker leather jacket during fall season
Choker with pearls – pearls & leather – ultra modern; pendant pearls are so playful & trendy, pearls and metal just feminine & rock and roll. But for everyday life velvet choker with a pearl can be this little detail that you can’t miss. Our Founder Liza Kovalyova is wearing it with LIKOV Wednesday T-shirt. Black pearl choker is also chic and modern, we like a lot Victoria necklace choker by Justine Clenquet
Bandana Choker – in fabric can be matched to sporty chic street style as seen on Kendall Jenner and the leather one by Chloe can be a bold statement even for the evening outfit
